Thursday Things: Urban Art, Inspo & Election Night Survival

Welcome to my first official ‘Thursday Things’ post. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while because I love reading other blogger’s take on them. My version of Thursday Things is intended to be a skimmable weekly post of inspiration, random thoughts, current obsessions and fun finds.

Current Obsession: Urban Art

I do a lot of walking these days. It’s one of those simple pleasures that I rediscovered during this weird pandemic year. Walking your way through quiet neighborhoods and communities gives you the chance to discover little pieces of magic you’ve wouldn’t have otherwise noticed. Lately, I’ve found myself taken by urban art. I’ve amassed quite a photo collection of different things that I’ve found delightful for one reason or another. Unexpected finds always put a smile on my face.

Found in Annapolis, Washington D.C. and Frederick.

Inspiration

Not state the obvious but dang, this year has been HARD. Not only do we have to deal with the fear and uncertainty of the pandemic but we’re also somehow expected to still make moves in our work and personal lives. It’s a lot.

As a professional, wife and mother I have a lot on my plate to stress about so I’m always looking for inspiration to help me get by. Figured I would pass along some of my favorite discoveries of the week to others!

People: Small Moments of Joy

As an extrovert stuck in the middle of a global pandemic, I’ve been struggling. I really miss people. Like everyone else I know, I took real-life interactions for granted. Now I value them for what they are — delightful moments of joy and pleasure.

Side note: I’ve gotten into the habit of writing down my joyful moments and the things I’m currently grateful for. Nothing extravagant, just some lines in a notebook. But it has done wonders for my well-being. When you challenge yourself to identify these things it really makes all the difference in your outlook.

This. Is. Brilliant.

I’m not a political gal by nature but I’m pretty sure we’re all done with this election cycle. Not matter what political party you belong to, I’d bet money that you can’t wait for this craziness to be over. I found this brilliant “Election Night Survival Kit” by BABE wine online and just had to have one. It includes a bottle of BABE’s “Polls Closing. Bottles Opening” red wine to help you celebrate your vote, along with a four-pack of canned BABE Rosé to imbibe “as you watch the polls close.”  It also includes tissues to wipe away tears, a stress ball to clench and a pillow to scream into if things don’t go your way.

I know, right?!? Incidentally, they sold out in two hours.

Blogger. Marketer. Deadline juggler. Flibbertigibbet. A fan of all things glitter and girly, Jen’s passions include gabbing with girlfriends, running marathons, sipping (okay, gulping) cocktails and waxing poetic about the tortured soul of Professor Snape. Rarely found without her nose in a book (or her iPhone), she acknowledges that her level of geekery might not be for everyone. Consider yourself warned. Her ultimate goal in life is to be a professional wanderer of the internet or Amy Poehler’s BFF. (Both totally accomplishable, of course.)
