Pursuit of it All

2019 Frederick Running Festival

So I’ve gotten myself into a bit of a pickle, friends. I’ve signed up to run a half-marathon on May 5th.

It has been a long time since I’ve run an actual race (we’re talking YEARS) and I’m both anxious and excited. (Mostly anxious.)

So it makes sense that I’m easing back into it with my hometown running festival. A total no brainer! I mean, I’ve made so many great memories with the Frederick Running Festival over the years. (It was the very first 1/2 marathon I ever attempted. Me and this race go waaaaay back!)

That all being said, I’m hesitant. Actually, that’s not accurate… I’m terrified. I’ve always loved running but it has been a very long time since I’ve logged the kind of mileage required. Or even HALF the mileage required. And now I’m trying to do it in a group setting. With timers. And spectators!

But the good news is… I know the course.

I’ve run this specific course a few times and I know first hand how much fun the experience is. I’ve never wanted for nutrition stops, bathrooms or friendly volunteers. Corrigan Sports, the company behind the Frederick Running Festival and Baltimore Running Festival, always exceeds my expectations. In my early running days I could be found running one or both of their events every single year.

Proof that I was a nut job.

I’m currently working on finding my groove again. The truth of the matter is that I’ve not done more than 4.5 miles (long run) at this point and we’ve got only 9 weeks until race day. Time to get this show on the road!

“The voice inside your head that says you can’t do this is a liar.”

If you, or anyone you know is on the fence about signing up for the Frederick 1/2 (or the relay or the 5K) you really need to take the leap. The premiums are out of this world and the medals are outrageous. We’re talking worthy enough to wear around the office for a solid week afterwards. #EarnedIt
