So I’ve gotten myself into a bit of a pickle, friends. I’ve signed up to run a half-marathon on May 5th. It has been a long time since I’ve run an actual race (we’re talking YEARS) and I’m both anxious and excited. (Mostly anxious.) So it makes sense that I’m easing back into it with my hometown running festival. A total no brainer! I mean, I’ve made so many great memories with the Frederick Running Festival over the years. (It was the very first 1/2 marathon I ever attempted. Me and this race go waaaaay back!) That all being said,…

Meal Planning, Food Tracking, And Accountability: One day I woke up and made a decision to change everything.

You ever look at yourself in a picture or in the mirror and think: Whoa? Is that really what I look like? Or found yourself sluggishly weaving your way through each day without energy? Yeah, me too. I’ve been struggling for some time now. When my husband had a health scare in 2015 it really rocked our world. So I decided to take a conscious step back on my personal priority list and instead focused all of my energy on him, relieving his stresses and rearranging our lives. I changed jobs and stopped most of the activities I previously enjoyed. And, quite frankly,…

I can tell you the exact day I received and activated my first Fitbit® — Sunday, December 25, 2011 — because it basically changed my life. Up until that point I had no clue what my level of activity was throughout the day. I assumed I was Wonder Woman. I was so incredibly wrong. Fitbit taught me that. Fitbit also taught me that I probably should’ve taken up a career that didn’t involve spending 10 to 12 hours a day sitting in front of a computer. Because sitting in front of a computer brings no Fitbit wearer joy. Only despair. I’ve had…

Okay, friends! The weather has officially broken and it’s time to emerge from our self-imposed winter hibernation. The sun is warm during the day, birds are chirping, mornings and evenings still have a chill… Spring is the perfect time to get those running miles in, and what better way to stay in shape than participate in a few good challenges! And, if you’re anything like me, then you’re busy looking for some cool races near Washington D.C. or Baltimore to run over the next few months. The ones I have my eye on are no ordinary races, of course. Where’s the awesome…

All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking. -Friedrich Neitzsche Being the kind of gal who liked to run marathons for fun, I used to think that walkers were slackers or people who clearly had too much time on their hands. Unlike my strolling counterparts, I usually hit the pavement with the mindset of racking up as many miles as I could in as little time as possible. Walking is kinda inefficient by those standards. And yet, if I’m 100% honest about it, I was jealous of my walker pals. They seemed so much more relaxed and, dare I say it, happier.…
