Simple hacks to help you turn your everyday family vacation into a DIY spa-inspired getaway.

I’ve always been envious of ladies who have the opportunity to embark on a luxurious spa and wellness trip. These outings seem to be out of reach and reserved for only the extremely affluent or the childless. (I realize that may not be the case but the delusion helps me cope.) Just because I am not in the position to book myself a week at a resort in Montana, doesn’t mean I haven’t found ways to work a spa experience into my annual vacation. Au contraire! In fact, I am much more intentional in my focus on self care and wellness. (No matter…

8 Must See Summer Festivals Near DC: Maryland Renaissance Festival

Summer is pretty busy in a trying-really-hard-to-do-all-of-the-relaxing-while-also-having-all-of-the-fun kind of way. We make time to travel, visit relatives, catch up on our reading lists, and fit in an afternoon post-ice-cream-coma nap as needed. Also, we LOVE going to festivals! 8 Must See Summer Festivals Near D.C. There is no way we can make it to all of these, but here are some we each love to hit every year AND a few on our dream list that we hope to make it to this year (or in a future summer). 1. Truckeroo DC’s food truck festival. This is one of our do-not-miss festivals…

Georgetown Weekend Getaway

There are certain life events that constitute coordinating a girls’ weekend. Celebrating that a best friend’s getting married is most certainly at the top of that list. “Just because” also qualifies for a spot towards the top, in case you’re wondering. My sister got married to a terrific guy last year (with an equally terrific family). In addition to being funny, smart, and really good at entertaining my youngest, he also has a good soul – as indicated by a couple of years spent serving in the Peace Corps in Morocco. He and my sister became farmers together post-Peace Corps, and he’s an urban farmer…

Brooklyn Cheap Eats Getaway!

One of the fabulous things about living smack dab in the middle of the East Coast is that we have several major cities within a few hours’ drive: Philly, Baltimore, Charlottesville, and Washington D.C.,  to name a few. Whether it’s signing up for a White House tour, catching a Broadway show, shopping endlessly, visiting the National Aquarium, or a host of other experiences, you’ve got options. Tons of them. And, if you’re a foodie like me, those regional destinations become even more amazing, especially when THE foodie mecca is a mere three-and-a-half hour drive away! A Brooklyn cheap eats getaway? Yes, you must. I’ll show…

Personally, I am not an amusement parker. I visit them, under duress, to please my thrill seeking family. I don’t like crowds, I don’t do heat, I hate being overcharged for random trinkets, and standing in line makes my back sore. Despite all that, I usually wind up having a blast in between bouts of screaming in real fear for my life and moments of feeling like I may truly barf up every single piece of the delectable funnel cake I devoured for lunch. Because dang it, I love funnel cake. And seeing my kids laugh uproariously at my…
