The Resurgence Of Bitters In Cocktails

A few years ago I was in Hershey, Pa., for a business trip. I’d been to Hershey Park before; we’re lucky to live pretty close, and how can you not visit “The Sweetest Place On Earth” when it’s less than two hours away?! Right. This particular business trip was the first time I’d stayed overnight, and also the first time I’d visited The Hershey Hotel and their Woodside Cottages. It was winter, light snow flurries were falling, and it was absolutely stunning. The service was impeccable, clearly surpassing any other four star hotel at which I’ve stayed—from their concierge service to the wait-staff at one…

3 Reasons I Don't Diet

I don’t diet. Never have; never will. Dictionary.com has several definitions for the word “diet,” and this one happens to really get under my foodie skin:   Such a selection or a limitation on the amount a person eats for reducing weight: No pie for me, I’m on a diet.   I know many chronic dieters. The ones who find some sort of new trend to follow every year: pills, cleanses, all protein, no fat, Paleo, going gluten-free, and many, many others. Some adopt a new diet program for health reasons, and others in a desperate (and hopefully easy) attempt to…

This summer I had the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary girls’ night in with a few of my local blogging buds (and some really cool new peeps too). Thanks to the lovely Loews Annapolis, I got to experience their wonderful location, partake in some delicious food and beer pairings, and soak up some fun and relaxation away from home for an evening. I stuffed my belly with all of the delicious items Chef Teddy Folkman graciously provided us. I learned a few things about Belgian beer (like that there is this one maple flavored one that is, real talk, SO good).…

Pinto Bean & Chicken Stew

Technically, it’s still summer. We’re so close to fall, though, I can taste it—especially on rainy days when it’s barely hanging on to 60°F outside. The mere mention of autumn makes me want to feed my slow cooker addiction, gobble up savory comfort foods, and devour soups and stews by the heaping spoonful. Like this pinto bean & chicken stew that simmers all. day. long. in the slow cooker. YUM! You could just as easily throw this stew together on the stove top with canned beans. I happen to like the slow cooker because it makes the house smell…

Always Choose Remarkable!

One of the worst decisions I’ve ever made, I made in high school. I was in 10th grade and on the JV field hockey team. The last game of the season, my coach called me over to the bench prior to the game and informed me that she intended to suit me up to play on the varsity team that day. Talk about a major shocker! Playing on varsity while in tenth grade rarely, if ever, happened. To say that I was surprised was an understatement. I was nervous. I was worried. But I was also thrilled. I can’t recall if I did anything especially remarkable in that final…
