Our latest “Girl Crush” is something special. If you’ve met her, then you know exactly why we wanted her as our third feature. This week we’re crushing on Mary Barry, Vice President, Business Development Officer at Frederick County Bank (FCB). Mary is truly a gem! (Not to mention ridiculously adorable.) She is involved in everything (or so it seems) and has a vivacious personality that makes you want to be her BFF immediately. Her community work has helped and inspired so many people in the area, and she can ROCK a gala. Like, for realz. Give us the deets on your life and career… My life…

Brunch Spots in DC and Maryland: Miss Shirley's

Late night diner runs in college, after an evening of debauchery, meant plates of pancakes, eggs, cheeseburgers, and fries. And coffee. Oh—and maybe more beer. As grown-ups, brunch spots are where this mash up happens. It’s one of the few times you can order either shrimp ‘n grits or a plate of crispy waffles without anyone batting an eye. You can drink wine and Bloody Mary’s and champagne cocktails without a care before noon. It’s meant to be fun and relaxed! And while brunch can be fancy, prim and proper; it can also be sloppy, greasy and fabulous. If you brunch in…

Glamping: Luxury Camping Near Washington, DC

A few years ago I was working with a brand that had me shipped out to California to go camping. When I first read the itinerary, I recall breaking immediately into a mad sweat, because HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER I DO NOT CAMP. Sleeping under the stars in the open air with the nighttime sounds and the creepy crawlies and the unregulated temperatures is SO not my jam. I like a nice skylight to peer through as I snuggle on a for real bed in a room with running water, flushing toilets, hot showers, window screens, and central…

There’s no better feeling than not being able to put a book down. To finishing a fun novel in one curled-up-on-the-couch-with-a-blanket sitting (a-hem, I’m looking at you Harry Potter and Hunger Games). To enjoying a completely UNserious series simply because it’s easy to read, and the story is fun and magical, and completely different than real life. My early obsessions began with Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, and Nancy Drew. (In fact, part…

Varekai by Cirque du Soleil

Each time I see a Cirque du Soleil show, I’m transported. Cirque shows are truly magical experiences that can’t help but leave the viewer feeling a little bit transformed. So, I’m sure you can imagine how excited I was to be offered two free press tickets to the most recent Cirque show coming to Baltimore. (Excited is putting it mildly!) For those of you who’ve not yet experienced a Cirque du Soleil show, it can be a bit hard to define. Each performance tells a story through the combination of acrobatics, dance, music, lighting and elaborate costumes. Varekai, which is now playing at Royal Farms Arena, has been seen by nearly 10…
